A little bit about us and this blog:

We are sisters, moms of young children, and we absolutely love to "make" things. We both always have a million projects we're working on at once in all sorts of different areas of creating. We hope this blog helps us focus and finish one project at a time!!

About Nancy:
Every single day I get to do what I've always wanted:  take care of my 4 kiddos (ages 7 and under- including a set of twins). Very thankfully I have a champ husband who helps out, and loves me even when I am unshowered and unmake-uped. In the words of Jane Austen, he sees me "faultless in spite of all [my] faults" (from Emma). I am so lucky!!

A few random things about me:
I hopelessly and forever love: my family, my religion, long hot showers, sunsets, leaves in the fall, stripes and polka dots,  cookies, holding babies, exploring, traveling, long summer days, the smell of freshly cut grass or the earth after it rains, lush green hills, guitar music, seeing the world, springtime flowers, the snow in December (I stop loving it mid-January), reading, flip flops, matryoshka dolls, eating at bake shops or family owned restaurants, holidays, loud music in the car, beautiful books, handmade things, Anne of Green Gables, The Sound of Music, Lithuania (where I served a mission for my church),waterfalls and rivers, mountains, beaches, seeing anything beautiful, people who inspire me, creating, and appreciating what others create.

When my twins were born in 2010,  I became aware of the blog world during the long and late feeding hours (I know I'm a little slow).  I confess that I quickly turned into a blog stalker.  It was fun and inspiring to learn so much from amazing bloggers. I am passionate about creating, and have done many MANY diy projects, and have wanted to jump into the blog world for a while.  I love the quote, "I just want to create beautiful things even if no one else cares." That's me!!! Through this blog we'll continue to learn from other bloggers and create DIY projects that add simplicity and beauty to life. Even if 'no one else cares', we'll enjoy doing it.

About Jenn:
Jenn is extremely busy this week and will add much more to this later. As her sister though, I know her very well and can introduce her. Jenn served a mission for our church in Brazil and so did her husband. He is actually from Brazil. They met after both of their missions and fell in love- both being very amazing and good looking people- it was a great match. Jenn and her husband Ricardo are my children's heroes (and mine!!). They are always having fun with people, doing spectacular projects, and enjoying life. Everyone loves them. Jenn is one of my very best friends in the Universe. She can tell when I'm happy, sad, sick, well, etc. by simply looking at me. I love her dearly and I'm so thankful that she agreed to do this blog with me.

Her darling daughter is the one with the red hair- she looks just like Jenn when Jenn was 2 :)

About Her Simple A' La Mode
We have talked about starting a blog for over a year, and decided that it is finally time. So, here we are. A hero of ours, Dieter F. Uchtdorf said, "As you take the normal opportunities of your daily life and create something of beauty and helpfulness, you improve not only the world around you but also the world within you."   That's one of the major focuses of "Her Simple A' La Mode"-- striving to improve the world outside and inside ourselves. Just as the a' la mode makes a piece of pie so much better, we believe that creativity and giving of ourselves makes life much better as well. Creativity is one of the highest ways to serve our families and the world because it makes life that much more happy, fun, and exciting. It makes the blah - beautiful.

The two main focuses of this blog are creativity and compassion. We wanted to find a way to constantly do good in the world. A wise woman, Bonnie Parkin, said, "never suppress a generous thought." We plan to find ways to be generous, to reach out, to give and to serve our families, communities, and throughout the world- even in small ways. We will search for and create projects that can be done as individuals, in groups, and as families to reach out and give back. As James Barrie, the author of Peter Pan said, "Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves."

We are thankful for those who inspire us to create.  C.S. Lewis said, "Even in literature and art no man who bothers about originality will ever be original. Wheras if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten become original without ever having noticed it." That is how we live- giving credit where it is due, and using inspiration to create from our souls.
